Beverly,
I am saddened to read of Howard's passing. Our businesses were at once similar, overlapping, and yet different. Back in the 1970s when I was just getting into the book business, and before Howard sold his interest in Libros Latinos, Howard sold me my fist 16th-century Mexican book, in fact he sold me three all in one transaction. All were incomplete. All were Huntington Library discards. If I had them now and were to sell them in today's market, their sale would easily equal a month's worth of selling. Back then they fetched a lot less but the thrill of having them has not faded and probably never will.
Yes, he was a kind and generous man and many, including me, will miss him. I am truly sorry for your loss.
Sincerely,
David
